Green Butterfly Award for Story Trail.

The Clune Wood Storytrail Project has been presented with the prestigious Green Butterfly Award. Friends of Durris Forests and Durris School were presented with the award at a ceremony in Huntly Castle on 12th November.

The Awards are presented annually by the Aberdeenshire Environmental Forum and are in recognition of a project that benefits and raises awareness of the environment. The AEF Convenor Brian Martin visited Durris School and the Storytrails on 5th November, and FDF heard soon after that we had made the shortlist for an award for 2003.
The award was presented at the AEF Annual General Meeting on 12th November at the Castle Hotel, Huntly. The joint project is a partnership between Durris School, FDF, Forestry Commission Scotland and Awards for All. It was highly commended for the fine work in portraying our local history, and the finish and high standard of the displays in Clune Wood.
The three story trails created in Clune Wood have 'signposts' set at intervals along waymarked paths, each containing elements of the stories created by the children after studying local history and legend, together with their pictures.
The award will be displayed at the AGM of Friends of Durris Forests on 24 November.

Photographs of the presentation are available from the Green Diary, Inverurie
